NASA’s LRO Moves Closer to the Lunar Surface

NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has completed a maneuver that brings it the closest the spacecraft has ever been to the lunar surface.

Lunar Orbiter is now orbiting the moon at an altitude of 12 miles above the South Pole. It will be looking for more signs of water on the south-facing slopes of crater rims.
