IRS in Space: How Will We Tax a Mars Mission? – Space.com

Taxes are going to play a big role in a Mars mission, both in getting there and upon arrival, one expert says.

Will the owner of the first tavern on Mars have to pay income taxes to the USA back on Earth? If he was a US citizen before launch, the IRS says he will. Too bad it would be more expensive to send the MarsBucks to Washington than they are worth. How would the IRS spend a MarsBuck anyway? Could they use it to reduce the national debt?
